The practice covers the areas of Czech law that businesses and individuals encounter in ordinary operation. What follows describes those areas in general terms so that a reader can tell whether a question falls inside or outside them. It is a description of subject matter, not an offer of services in any particular case.
Corporate and commercial
This covers the formation of Czech entities and the choice between them, changes to founding documents, share transfers, arrangements between shareholders, and the registrations that follow each of those in the commercial register. On the commercial side it covers the ordinary run of business contracts: supply, distribution, services, and the general terms that sit behind them.
Employment
Czech employment law is codified and, by comparison with several other systems, prescriptive about process. The work in this area concerns employment contracts and the agreements that sit alongside them, changes to terms, the statutory grounds and procedures for ending employment, and the documentation that has to exist for each. Process errors are the single most common source of employment disputes here.
Real property
Property work concerns purchases and sales, the mechanics of transfer through the cadastral register, commercial and residential leases, and the encumbrances that attach to land and buildings. The register is central to almost everything in this area, and the practical questions usually concern what it records and what it does not.
- Administrative procedure. Registrations, licences, permits and the appeal routes attached to them.
- Data protection. The obligations that apply to a small business processing personal data.
- Debt recovery. The stages of a claim through the Czech courts and enforcement afterwards.
- Intellectual property. Trade mark registration and the protection of business names.
Outside the practice areas
Criminal defence, family law and specialised financial regulation are outside what this practice does. A general office that claimed all of them would do most of them poorly. Where a question falls outside these areas the appropriate answer is a referral rather than an attempt.
